Ask these questions before booking your Boston Newborn Photographer!
Having a baby is probably the most exciting thing you go through in life. You have waited nine long months to meet your sweet new love and now it's time to choose the person to capture these incredibly special moments. Your baby will never be this tiny, sleepy, or snugly and these memories are fleeting. It's absolutely important to choose the perfect Boston newborn photographer for you. Make sure to ask these questions while looking for your Boston newborn photographer so you can feel confident in the one you choose!
DO YOU HAVE ANY SAFETY TRAINING WITH NEWBORNS?
This is probably THE most important question you can ask your Boston newborn photographer. If you are having a posed newborn session (think baby in a basket) and your photographer will be handling your baby with wrapping and posing, you want to make sure they are trained in newborn safety. There are many unsafe positions that could injure a newborn if done wrong so having an educated photographer is critical. If you are choosing a lifestyle photographer (who captures you snuggling on your baby in natural moments) the safety posing training is not as critical as they shouldn't be touching your baby much. I am strictly a lifestyle photographer and very rarely do I need to touch your baby, I just direct you into natural poses that look beautiful.
WHAT ARE YOUR COVID POLICIES?
This is definitely the second most important question to ask. This virus isn't going anywhere so it's important to make sure your Boston newborn photographer is taking their sanitation and protection policies seriously. Making sure they are wearing a mask and washing their hands is very important. If going to their studio, make sure to ask what they are doing to protect you and your baby. I go to my clients homes, so I make sure to let them know that I am very serious about keeping them safe, including wearing a mask, washing hands when I get there, taking my shoes off at the door, and now especially I do not touch the baby unless absolutely necessary.
WHAT IF MY BABY IS FUSSY AND DOESN'T COOPERATE?
Asking how your Boston newborn photographer will handle a fussy baby is important! I make sure to let my clients know that our session is baby led. The baby is the boss of the day (and every day for that matter) so I make sure to have plenty of time if they need to stop to eat or be soothed. Having so much experience with newborns, I'm always there to offer advice if needed to help calm and soothe your baby!
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Your photographer should be available to offer wardrobe advice. Likely they will send you a guide that has all that information in it. I send every client my "In home newborn session prep guide" which has all the important information they need to know for their session!
WHAT DOES YOUR FEE INCLUDE AND WHAT IS YOUR TIMELINE?
This is an important question because there are a few different ways photographers charge for their time and artwork. Some photographers charge a session fee that covers their time and talent and then charge separately for products and digital images, Other photographers are all inclusive and charge one fee up front and that includes whatever is covered in their package. Sometimes they offer a certain number of digital images in their package and you can choose to upgrade to purchase all the images in the gallery. Making sure you understand what you're getting for what you paid is important! Also, make sure to ask how long their turnaround time is. You're probably going to be dying to see your images and share them with family so making sure they have a fair turnaround time is important! I prefer to only take a few sessions a week so that I am able to edit and send out your images within a few days.
Hopefully asking these questions will help you find the perfect Boston newborn photographer for you and your family!
